Biohazard 2 EX-Files Translation

Fans of the series will know that the majority of Resident Evil games are written in Japanese in the first instance before being translated and localised into English and other languages.

When Resident Evil 2 made the move over to the Nintendo 64 platform to make up for the compression compromise needed to fit the game on a single cartridge new additions were made for the game. One such example was the insertion of the EX-Files – new original files scattered around Raccoon City that added to the lore and worldbuilding – specifically teasing the in-development Resident Evil 0. The original Japanese files have been translated by REP staff member, theBatman.

Knowing how much you love this town, just as I do, I kept believing you were still here and waited for you, but…

I don’t think I can hold back the zombies any longer.

And I’ve already handed out most of the weapons and ammunition from the shop to the surviving townsfolk. Even that Raging Bull you ordered the other day—I gave it away too. Sorry about that…

Anyway, if I stay here any longer, it’ll just be a pointless death.

For now, I’ve decided to flee to the neighbouring town of Stone Ville.

Damn it!

Is anyone ever going to read this? After I’ve become food for those flesh-eating monsters, will the GIs who sealed off the city find it and laugh?

July 24 — Raccoon Forest

At a recreational facility owned by Umbrella Corporation, I obtained the following documents:

“Umbrella Bio-Weapon Promotional Materials”
- Development Code MA-39 — Cerberus
- Development Code MA-121 — Hunter
- Development Code Fi-3 — Neptune
- Development Code T-002 — Tyrant

In addition to the above, it appears that several other bio-organic weapons were created through experimental infection with the T-Virus. Furthermore, it is highly likely that an accident occurred during these experiments, resulting in severe environmental contamination—not only affecting humans, but also animals and plant life. This contamination can be classified as a biohazard. As of this time, no effective treatment for the contamination has been discovered.

DAVID’S MEMO

My sanity is slipping… I still can’t believe things turned out like this.

Another man died in yesterday’s fight. It was Meyer from Homicide, one of the best shots among us. When the zombies broke through and I nearly got trapped trying to escape, he stayed behind to cover me. And I left him there.

I can still hear him calling my name… and the screams that came from behind me.

I was terrified. I was scared!

September 27

Today we wiped out a huge group of zombies that had smashed through the barricades.

I took a swig of whiskey for courage and blasted those idiots with a shotgun. This thing can turn several of them into mincemeat at once. I was cheering and laughing as I kept firing into them.

Then one of the others grabbed me. When I looked closer, I saw that several police officers had been caught in the crossfire and were lying there among the zombies. So what?

At this point, what difference does it make? We’re all just having one last party before we die anyway.

I’ve put three of my own comrades out of their misery.

Including the ones killed by zombies, we’ve lost twelve or thirteen people so far.

Our numbers have really dwindled.

In three hours we’ll be back in the conference room, discussing pointless plans and procedures.

It’s all a waste of time.

When this bottle runs dry, I intend to die peacefully myself.

I’m actually looking forward to it.

JOURNALIST’S NOTE

The city’s perimeter has been sealed off by the military.

That’s how dangerous the situation here has become.

Most of the city’s residents are already dead, and even the few who are still alive have likely been exposed to the pathogen.

The authorities have decided that preventing the entire United States from being contaminated by this “cannibal disease” is the top priority.

I can’t deny the logic of it. Damn it.

Whether I succumb to the infection or get eaten alive, there’s no way out for me.

Until the day I die, I’ll keep searching for the truth.

UMBRELLA MEMO

To Dr. William Birkin,

Yesterday, we received a large order from a certain country for the usual APL-14 product, but our inventory is critically low. We are currently requesting supplies from other research facilities as well, but we urgently ask that you return the five cases of APL-14 that were shipped to your laboratory for research purposes.

Our investigation has revealed that the current shortage is the result of repeated mishandling at the Antarctic Base. To ensure that this sort of problem does not occur again, we have issued a severe warning to Mr. Ashford.

Even so, it’s hard to believe that the Ashford family has fallen so far…

MERCENARY’S DIARY

September 1

I’ve finished six months of special training.

My body is finally starting to regain its old instincts.

I was once a capable soldier, but I was sentenced to death by firing squad for a crime I didn’t commit.

They tortured me and forced a confession out of me.

Then, on the very morning I was supposed to be executed, a miracle arrived without warning.

A corporation took me in and gave me another chance to live.

September 15

I cut my vacation short and returned to headquarters.

It seems my unit, the UBCS, has received deployment orders.

Umbrella maintains its own military forces to deal with corporate terrorism and kidnappings of important personnel.

But it also keeps a separate group of “cleaners” to handle the problems caused by its secret products.

My unit belongs to the latter.

September 28

Dawn has broken.

But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m in hell.

This place is insane.

There is no natural order left in this city.

The dead still hunger, and these living corpses hunt the flesh of the living.

I should have chosen the firing squad.

Compared to this place, prison camp was paradise.

As I pull the trigger, I pray with all my heart that my own corpse will never rise and walk again.

REBECCA’S REPORT

July 23

In the Arklay Mountains, I discovered a Military Police transport vehicle engulfed in flames. Nearby were the bodies of several MPs and an unidentified male.

According to information obtained from military authorities, the unidentified body was identified as that of former Lieutenant Billy Coen, who had been sentenced to death by court-martial on July 22.

It is believed that he encountered some kind of accident while being transported by Marine Corps Military Police personnel.

The bodies had been torn apart by what appeared to be some kind of wild animal, and the damage was extensive.

The following day, I returned to the scene to recover the bodies, but none of them could be found.

This is only speculation, but it is possible that the corpses became zombies and wandered away from the area.

Military authorities have requested that we turn over the body of former Lieutenant Coen.

However, for the reasons stated above, securing the body would be extremely difficult.

Therefore, I would like to place this investigation on hold.

CHRIS’S REPORT

To Chief Irons,

I hereby submit the following report regarding the mansion explosion incident that occurred in the Arklay Mountains.

On July 23, the Bravo Team of the S.T.A.R.S., led by Captain Enrico Marini, was dispatched to investigate a series of bizarre and unexplained murders. However, while in the Arklay Mountains, all communication with their helicopter was lost, and contact with the team was severed.

To search for the missing team, the Alpha Team, led by Captain Albert Wesker, was deployed. In a forested area, we discovered the wreckage of what appeared to be Bravo Team’s helicopter.

After landing and beginning our investigation, we were attacked by a pack of ferocious dogs. These animals had decayed, zombie-like bodies and continued their assault without hesitation despite being shot.

During the attack, Officer Joseph Frost was killed when his throat was torn out. We were forced to retreat into a nearby mansion.

While exploring the mansion, we discovered that it was a research facility operated by Umbrella Corporation. A deadly virus developed by Umbrella had transformed all the researchers inside into zombies.

We also confirmed the existence of numerous biological weapons developed by Umbrella. Furthermore, we discovered the bodies of Bravo Team members Enrico Marini, Kenneth Sullivan, Forest Speyer, and Richard Aiken, who appeared to have been killed by these creatures.

As our investigation continued, evidence emerged that Captain Wesker was secretly collaborating with Umbrella. It became clear that the entire incident had been a trap orchestrated by him.

Although we ultimately managed to escape the mansion, the facility was completely destroyed in an explosion, leaving no physical evidence behind.

Recently, there has been a sharp increase in cases of a mysterious illness throughout Raccoon City. The symptoms bear a striking resemblance to the zombification phenomenon we witnessed inside the mansion.

It is highly likely that Umbrella was involved in this incident as well. Therefore, in the interest of uncovering the truth, I strongly request that immediate action be taken against Umbrella Corporation.

MOTHER VIRUS REPORT

The Progenitor Virus was discovered by Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer.

Research into the virus was later entrusted to Dr. James Marcus. However, his dedication to the project became excessive. His behavior grew increasingly erratic and abnormal, eventually resulting in his expulsion from the company.

Following his departure, responsibility for the research was handed over to Dr. William Birkin, where it remains today.

Dr. Birkin’s achievements are well known. He discovered the T-Virus and later succeeded in creating the even more powerful G-Virus.

At present, research into the Progenitor Virus is no longer limited to Dr. Birkin alone. Laboratories around the world are conducting related studies.

In the future, it is likely that even newer strains of viruses will be developed.

PROGRESS REPORT

As a result of the long-term refinement of the MA-120 project, we have finally completed the MA-121 Hunter, the “highly versatile B.O.W.” that we had been striving to create.

The Hunter has already demonstrated more than sufficient performance as a B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon).

However, in pursuit of even greater versatility and combat power, we are currently developing the Hunter R and several other improved variants.

It should not take long before these models are ready for practical deployment.
