PROLOGUE

The “T-virus” developed by the international corporation Umbrella—and the destruction of Raccoon City it caused—are still fresh in memory. However, even after that incident, Umbrella continued developing bioweapons in complete secrecy.

Then, on September 18, 2002, a theft of the T-virus occurred at Umbrella’s Paris research facility. Just three days later, on September 21, a luxury cruise ship owned by the company was hijacked, and the T-virus was released throughout the vessel. Bruce, an operative affiliated with the U.S. military, is assigned a special mission and boards the ship alone…

Bruce McGivern: (Age 27)

An operative with the U.S. Strategic Command (U.S. STRATCOM), assigned to a pursuit and investigation team targeting Umbrella. He has a strong sense of justice and tends to act before he thinks. Because of this, he can be reckless—sometimes risking his own life without hesitation and acting impulsively. However, when it comes to his work, he is an elite, top-class professional.

Fongling: (Age 25)

An operative with China’s Ministry of State Security. Following orders from her superiors, she pursued and arrested her older brother, a pro-democracy activist—only for him to be executed the very same day. Even so, she bore no resentment toward her superiors or her country.
Instead, she cast aside her emotions and became a perfect instrument of the Chinese state.

She is always calm and carries an aloof, slightly mocking demeanour.

Morpheus D. Duvall: (Age 32)

A former member of Umbrella’s Research and Development division. The mastermind behind the T-virus theft incident, he possesses an extreme obsession with beauty. He is currently threatening both the United States and Chinese governments, demanding 5 billion dollars—or he will launch missiles loaded with the T-virus at major cities.

Zombies / Flame Zombies / Captain Zombie:

Humans infected by the “T-virus” spread by Morpheus. Having lost all reason and cognitive ability, they wander in search of human flesh, driven by an overwhelming hunger. Among them are Flame Zombies, which continue to move even while burning, and the Captain Zombie, which possess greater durability than normal zombies.

Hunter:

A specially modified organism—essentially an “elite” specimen—prepared for an Umbrella demonstration. Compared to standard Hunters, it boasts even greater speed and attack power. Its appearance has also been slightly altered, making it look more vicious and better suited for combat.

Nautilus & Torpedo Kid:

Failed B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) specimens that inhabit the underground waterways.

The host organism, Nautilus, has no combat ability itself, but continuously produces Torpedo Kids. The Torpedo Kids swim through the waterways and instinctively attack anything that comes near.

Glimmer:

A medium-sized creature with compound eyes that prefers darkness and is known for its speed.

Timid by nature, it will retreat into the shadows when approached—but the moment it senses an opening, it attacks in an instant. Based on its form, it is thought to be a type of Hunter, though the details remain unknown.

Queen & Halberd:

The Queen and Halberd are organisms combining traits of horseshoe crabs and cockroaches, with a colony-based ecology similar to ants or bees. The Queen, as her name suggests, has no combat ability, but continuously produces Halberds—her “guard” units—from her massive abdomen.

Pluto:

A test subject used in reaction studies, with all visual input from the outside world removed.

Originally human, its eyes were surgically removed, and muscle-enhancing drugs were administered, resulting in abnormally heightened hearing. Due to repeated experimentation, it has become highly aggressive. It escaped confinement and now roams the underground transport corridors.

Tyrant 091:

An experimental organism modified using the newly developed “T+G Virus.” It is distinguished by its massive arm and excels in both speed and attack power. However, its body is in a partially deteriorated state—its outer skin is not fully formed, leaving vital organs exposed.

Morpheus – First Form:

A transformed state achieved when Morpheus injected himself with the newly developed compound “V.0.9.2,” an improved version derived from the T+G Virus-based test sample “091.” He generates an electromagnetic barrier from his body, granting him the ability to nullify all physical attacks.

Morpheus – Second Form:

An out-of-control state triggered when a charged-particle rifle induced physical destruction at the genetic level. His body has grown enormous, far removed from anything human. His sense of self is gone—only the deep-seated hatred etched into Morpheus’s mind remains, driving his massive, corpse-like form.

Intelligence Operations Manual

Good morning, Bruce. Your target for this mission is Morpheus. He has stolen the T-virus from Umbrella and hijacked one of their cruise ships. Once you’ve infiltrated the vessel, report the target’s movements to Strategic Command HQ as quickly as possible. You may already be familiar with much of this but review the following manual just in case.
Good luck.

GET ITEMS : Your starting equipment is limited to a standard-issue handgun and a recovery item for emergency treatment. However, useful items may be found scattered throughout the area.

Important items—such as keys for locked doors or specialized tools—may also be lying around.
If you find something, pick it up. As a side note, items are easier to spot while in “cautious movement” mode.

LIFE AND DEATH: Taking damage will reduce your health and slow your movement speed. Your health status changes as follows when you take damage:
FINE (green) → CAUTION (orange) → DANGER (red)

If you are injured, check your current status in the Status Screen and use recovery items to maintain a FINE condition.

POSITIONING: Fighting multiple enemies at close range will almost certainly result in damage. If you become surrounded, your first priority is to create distance. Always be aware of spacing and avoid standing still and firing continuously. If enemies close in too much, you can evade attacks using Emergency Evasion.

FIRING: Ammunition is limited. Avoid wasting bullets—stay calm and aim for enemy weak points. If you run out of ammo, search your surroundings thoroughly to resupply. There should be locations where large quantities of ammunition are stored. While you can only carry a limited amount at a time, finding these areas will eliminate concerns about running out.

To: Mr. Roberto, International Sales Division

Please review the following and immediately convene a meeting onboard the vessel to formulate countermeasures. Today, from our Paris branch, three samples of the research-use “T-virus” have been stolen by an unknown party. The perpetrator is believed to be Morpheus D. Duvall, a former member of Headquarters’ Research and Development Division. As this action is presumed to be motivated by personal retaliation against our company, please alert all related organisations to remain on high alert. Additionally, if any information related to this matter is obtained, please report it to Headquarters immediately.

Periodic Report No. 1162

To: Mr. O’Neill, International Intelligence Division, Headquarters

This will likely be my final report on Morpheus after such a long period of surveillance. It seems he has begun to suspect my activities. Therefore, after this report, I will temporarily cease reporting and focus entirely on maintaining my role as one of his close aides in order to avoid danger. Please also refrain from contacting me unless absolutely necessary.

As for Morpheus— after carrying out the theft of the T-virus from the French branch, he appears to be boarding that cruise ship. In fact, by the time this report reaches you, he may have already done so. Over the past few months, his behavior has clearly deviated from all reason. His obsession with “beauty,” which was already apparent before, has only intensified. Recently, he has even undergone cosmetic procedures on his own body, maintaining an appearance that belies his age. His words and actions have also grown increasingly suspicious:

“I will rid this world of all that is ugly and build a kingdom overflowing with beauty.”

This has become his frequent refrain. If he is left unchecked, there is a high probability that he will cause an incident even greater than the last one. Regarding his current actions, he has begun making moves not only toward the United States, but toward other nations as well. If something does occur, it will likely be far more difficult to contain than the incident in Raccoon City. Headquarters must take appropriate action before it is too late.

Beginning September 16, renovations to the ship’s facilities will be carried out in phases.

This week’s schedule is as follows:

• Cleaning of the drainage system on the 1F pool deck, along with repairs to certain components.

Additionally, the handle used to open and close the boiler room inspection hatch is heavily corroded and scheduled for replacement. However, as a precaution, the old handle will be stored in the bow-side warehouse on 1F.

Letter from a Waiter

Dear little brother,

How’s everything back home? Is Mom doing well?

As for me, I’m currently enjoying an elegant voyage on a luxury cruise ship. …Well, that’s what I’d like to say. In reality, I’m working here as a waiter. Still, this ship is incredible. All the passengers are people you’d recognize from TV or newspapers.

According to my coworkers, VIPs from all over the world are gathered here, conducting business deals. I don’t know all the details, but apparently the ship’s owner is a world-famous pharmaceutical company. Just thinking about the fact that huge stacks of cash are changing hands right where I work makes me dizzy. It feels like I’ve wandered into a world I don’t belong in. But I can’t let that intimidate me. I’ve got to keep earning more money. Anyway, I’m doing fine, so don’t worry about me. You take care of things on your end too.

My 100th day onboard. That said, there’s not much to write about. I had high expectations for working on a luxury cruise ship, but honestly, the work isn’t any different from the cargo ship I used to be on.

September 4, 2002 (Wednesday)

It’s been a while since I wrote. Something noteworthy happened today, so I figured I’d record it.

A large shipment was transported into the presentation room— that room across the ship from the boiler room. Recently, there’s been a lot of movement, including new passengers coming and going. What exactly is going on? We crew members don’t have clearance to enter that room,
so my curiosity about it just keeps growing. I wonder if I’ll ever get a chance to sneak a look inside.

September 6, 2002 (Friday)

The shipments keep coming in. All of them are covered with sheets, so it’s impossible to see what’s inside. …but I saw it. A red marking peeking through a tear in one of the sheets. I’m pretty sure that symbol indicates biochemical weapons. People are still coming and going constantly, but strangely, the faces I see walking down the hallway aren’t the same on the way back. Is there some route we don’t know about?

A specially adjusted organism—essentially an “elite” specimen prepared for demonstration purposes. Compared to earlier models, it is faster and possesses greater attack power.

An experimental organism modified using a newly developed virus. It attacks using its massive arm. While highly agile and powerful, its body remains unstable and incomplete— its physical form is already beginning to deteriorate. A critical flaw has also been reported: vital organs are exposed through areas where the skin on its back has failed to form properly. Further improvements are required to prevent total bodily collapse.

Access to the following file is prohibited for general researchers.

We have successfully fused the T-virus with its antibody, the G-virus, at the genetic level, granting it electrical properties. However, observations of the prototype “091” show that many aspects remain incomplete. With the newly developed version v.0.9.2, we have finally confirmed the generation of high-voltage electrical output, which was our original objective.

It is expected that subjects injected with this version will generate an electromagnetic barrier, capable of repelling all physical attacks. To verify this, human experimentation will be conducted as soon as a suitable subject is identified.

Following the investigation into the incident that occurred in Raccoon City on May 11, 1998, it has been determined that serious negligence took place within the development division under your supervision. As the person responsible for that division, you are deemed to have failed to take appropriate measures to prevent the crisis. Therefore, effective today, you are hereby relieved of your position.

The contract you signed upon joining the company remains in effect, and you are strictly prohibited from disclosing any information regarding your activities at this company. Tomorrow marks exactly four months since the Spencer Rain set sail. I take pride in the fact that we’ve navigated safely this far. I even received words of appreciation from Umbrella’s representative, the ship’s owner. We still have a long journey ahead, but tomorrow I’ll gather the crew and treat them to a celebratory drink.

September 21, 2002 (Saturday)

Something feels off. Despite the late hour, strange noises can be heard. The crew reports that “nothing is out of the ordinary,” but I can’t help but wonder if that thing brought aboard by Umbrella’s researchers has gotten loose. As a precaution, I’ll keep a large-caliber Magnum on me at all times. It’s not often that so many VIPs gather in one place. Better safe than sorry.

September 22, 2002 (Sunday)

I can’t even send out a distress signal. What am I supposed to do? The passengers I swore to protect… and even my crew… are now nothing but corpses. It won’t be long before I join them.

An armed group still controls the ship. There is only one path left. I am prepared to share this ship’s fate.

It’s been a month since I was assigned to this facility. Honestly, I’m shocked at how sloppy the management is at this Umbrella waste disposal site. An accident like this was bound to happen.

So many people are dead. How long do I have left? I don’t want to end up like them. If death is coming… I want to die as a human.

I’m sick of that guy Morpheus, the one in charge here. Sure, he’s obsessed with developing bioweapons—fine. But shouldn’t he care about employee health too? Isn’t this supposed to be an Umbrella facility? Or does he think it’s his personal property?

I don’t even know how many days it’s been… I don’t want to stay in this place anymore…

But I can’t move. My body won’t listen. Help me…

Ecological Survey Report 1

This report summarizes ecosystem changes occurring among B.O.W.s discarded in this facility.

April 7

An unidentified aquatic organism is rapidly multiplying in the waterways. It resembles small lumps of flesh, but swims autonomously and approaches any moving object. Its tissue is extremely fragile— even slight stimulation causes it to burst, spraying bodily fluids. These fluids are highly acidic and extremely dangerous upon contact. Due to its torpedo-like swimming motion, we have named it “Torpedo Kid.”

April 9

The host organism of the Torpedo Kids has been discovered. They are continuously produced from this host. Since each individual has a very short lifespan, eliminating the host should allow complete eradication.

April 12

While attempting to eliminate the host, I was attacked by the surrounding masses as if they were protecting it. I suffered severe burns. They are spreading closer to my living quarters.

This is interfering with research— I must find a way to eliminate them…

Ecological Survey Report 2

May 18

Observation has shifted to the underground area. Due to limited power supply, parts of this area are almost completely dark—ideal for creatures that thrive in darkness.

May 19

Glowing red objects were spotted throughout the area. They appear to be eyes, but the body remains unseen. They move extremely fast and retreat when approached. We have named this organism “Glimmer.”

May 20

Several workers were sent to capture one—two were killed in the process.

May 22

We succeeded in capturing one specimen. Workers report that the creature becomes visible briefly when transitioning from waiting to attacking—this is its opening.

June 1

Even after examining the specimen, we cannot determine how it evolved into this form. It resembles a variant of the Hunter, but further research is required.

Experiment begins. The subject, “Alpha,” is a death row inmate selected for medical research.

Day 1: A metal rod is driven into the frontal lobe to eliminate pain sensation
(for “humanitarian” reasons in future experiments).

Use the transport elevator located on B5 underground level. The shaft runs through ocean depths of 300 meters— ensure secure containment. These subjects possess extraordinary strength.

Architect’s Memo

This underwater facility was abandoned by headquarters long ago. They likely don’t realize Morpheus is still operating here. A missile base has now been constructed. After the “Biohazard” incident, I worry how this place will ultimately be handled…

Research Report #220120 (Queen Type)

A creature combining the exoskeleton of a horseshoe crab with the resilience of a cockroach.

Displays colony behavior similar to ants or bees. The “Queen” cannot fly or fight, but continuously produces thousands of “guards.”

A weapon developed to counter T-virus biohazards. Based on particle accelerators used in genetic manipulation. It destroys targets at the molecular level, bypassing electrical interference. Likely effective even against electrified T+G organisms. Portable, but battery life is limited—ensure full charge before use.
