Biohazard Gun Survivor Files Translation
Fans of the series will know that the majority of Resident Evil games are written in Japanese in the first instance before being translated and localised into English and other languages.
As one of the earliest titles, Gun Survivor contains several localisation errors not present in the original Japanese. These files have been translated by REP staff member, TheBatMan.
CHURCH MANAGER’S DIARY
October 7
Today, all section supervisors of this city, including myself, were summoned by the Commander and briefed on the recent destruction of Raccoon City in America. During the meeting, criticism was directed toward William Birkin, who betrayed us in an attempt to obtain the G-Virus for himself. The Commander ordered us that if a traitor like Birkin exists in this city, we are authorized to kill them without mercy. I believe the Commander’s order is entirely justified.
This city must be one of the most important facilities to Umbrella Headquarters—just as important as the Raccoon City laboratory, if not more so. Under no circumstances can we allow a biohazard incident to occur here. If a biohazard were to break out, everything would be lost: the billions of dollars spent to purchase this entire city and construct its facilities would have been wasted. From now on, it will be necessary to keep an even closer watch on the activities of our employees than ever before.
RESTAURANT MANAGER’S DIARY
October 4
I heard something unbelievable.
Apparently, a small town in America called Raccoon City suddenly collapsed last week. From what I’ve heard, all of its residents turned into monsters, and not a single person survived. They say the incident involved Umbrella Pharmaceuticals, but I don’t know the details.
Even if it’s something happening across the ocean, if Umbrella is involved, it doesn’t feel like an ordinary incident. I just hope nothing like that happens in this city…
October 6
According to what I heard today, the guy responsible for wiping out Raccoon City was some fellow named William Birkin. They say he tried to keep the viruses he created—something called the T-Virus and G-Virus—all to himself and ended up fighting Umbrella Headquarters over control of them.
For some reason, during all that, he injected himself with one of the viruses and turned into a monster. Then the virus leaked into the sewers, spread through sewer rats, and eventually infected the entire city. That’s the story, anyway.
October 8
What should I do?
Today, one of the Umbrella employees who came in for lunch mentioned that the T-Virus is here in this city as well. He laughed it off and said an accident could never happen here, but you never know.
I took a job with Umbrella because they were offering an incredible salary, but I’m starting to get tired of running a restaurant that serves nobody but Umbrella employees in this remote backwater town. Maybe it’s time to get out of this city before that “one-in-a-million” accident actually happens.
REPORT ON DESTROYED RACCOON CITY
August 5, 1998
Report from U.B.C.S. Investigation Team Member #1
The biohazard incident that occurred on May 11 at the biological weapons research facility and Lord Spencer’s mansion was brought to a provisional conclusion on July 25, when members of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, including Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, destroyed the facility by explosion.
As of today, August 5, no leakage of the T-Virus into the surrounding area has been confirmed.
However, continued vigilance is considered necessary. Although unconfirmed, it is believed that former Umbrella employee and S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team leader Albert Wesker has died. We have obtained information indicating that Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield are preparing to publicly disclose details of this incident to members of the media and law enforcement agencies. In regard to this matter, I request swift political action from Headquarters.

Report from U.B.C.S. Investigation Team Member #2
I am currently at the Clock Tower in a district of Raccoon City. The city has already been overrun by zombies, and it is no exaggeration to say that Raccoon City has been completely destroyed by the biohazard. However, unlike the accidental biohazard incident at the mansion, there are strong indications that this disaster was a man-made accident caused by the treachery of Dr. William Birkin, an Umbrella researcher and the creator of both the T-Virus and G-Virus.
After investigating both biohazard incidents, I have come to feel strongly that two measures are essential:
- Strengthening virus management procedures at Umbrella facilities around the world.
- Thoroughly re-educating company employees.
Bioweapon viruses will become valuable products and a central pillar of our company’s future business. I urge all employees to devote themselves to ensuring that another biohazard incident never occurs.

The collection of T-Virus infection data and combat data involving B.O.W.s during the Raccoon City biohazard proved extremely difficult. In particular, gathering field data on the new B.O.W. that we call the “Pursuer”—a modified Tyrant—was far more challenging than anticipated. The target was more violent and possessed greater intelligence than we had imagined, resulting in heavy casualties among the U.B.C.S. personnel we deployed. We sincerely hope that our researchers will analyse the combat data obtained during this operation and use it to develop an even more advanced and ultimate B.O.W.

UMBRELLA TOP-SECRET FILE
Umbrella Corporation Classified Material – Unauthorized access strictly prohibited
This file contains data on new lifeforms and B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) created through T-Virus infection as a result of the T-Virus leak that originated at the Arklay Research Facility in the United States on May 11, 1998, as well as the large-scale biohazard incident that occurred in Raccoon City approximately four months later. Although unconfirmed, it is believed that additional B.O.W.s existed beyond those described here. Information on such creatures will be added once sufficient data becomes available.
B.O.W. File #1 — Zombie
A human infected with the T-Virus. Having lost all human reason, the creature is driven purely by instinct—particularly hunger—and wanders endlessly in search of human flesh.
Countermeasures:
Its movements are slow, making it relatively easy to eliminate with ranged attacks from a safe distance.
B.O.W. File #2 — Cerberus
A dog infected with the T-Virus. Unlike human zombies, physical decay has not progressed significantly, allowing it to retain great speed and agility. It is highly sensitive to sound and may attack from a considerable distance after hearing movement.
Countermeasures:
Although a handgun is generally sufficient, its speed makes accurate targeting difficult.
B.O.W. File #3 — Licker
Created when a zombie undergoes further mutation as the T-Virus continues to alter its body.
The mutation results in distinctive traits such as quadrupedal locomotion and an exposed brain. Compared to ordinary zombies, its explosive speed is dramatically enhanced. While it lacks visual organs, its sense of hearing is extraordinarily developed.
Countermeasures:
Because it reacts to sound, firearms must be used with caution. It is also highly sensitive to footsteps, making unnecessary running extremely dangerous.
B.O.W. File #4 — Ivy
A plant-based B.O.W. It is capable of independent movement through the absorption of moisture from the atmosphere via its outer surface. Extreme caution is advised regarding its whip-like tendrils.
Countermeasures:
It is vulnerable to fire. A grenade launcher loaded with flame rounds is particularly effective.
B.O.W. File #5 — Hunter
A B.O.W. created through T-Virus-induced genetic manipulation of a human subject.
Its lower-body musculature has been greatly enhanced, allowing it to leap high into the air and attack with tremendous force.
Countermeasures:
Just before it pounces on prey, there is a brief moment in which its rapid movement stops. Attacking during that instant is likely the best strategy.
B.O.W. File #6 — Tyrant
The ultimate form of T-Virus B.O.W. development, created through the combined efforts of our corporation. Based on the Tyrant, a more aggressive variant known as the “Modified Tyrant” was developed. In addition, a variant known as the “Pursuer”—created by implanting an intelligent parasitic organism into the host—was developed by the European branch.
Countermeasures:
Against its overwhelming durability and destructive power, there is virtually no effective means of resistance.
B.O.W. File #7 — [CLASSIFICATION UNKNOWN]
Although development has not yet been completed, theory suggests that by administering a certain substance during the cultivation of Tyrant genetic material, it would be possible to mass-produce an even more ferocious type of B.O.W. However, the problem is…
ANDY’S DIARY
September 6
I’ve never met him myself, but I heard that a guy named Vincent became the commander of this city a few months ago. Officially, he’s supposed to be some elite officer sent from Umbrella Headquarters. But according to the rumours, he’s the kind of man who would even kill his own coworkers if it helped him get ahead. Still, for someone like me, who spends every day down here in this gloomy basement, it doesn’t really matter much…
September 20
I heard an ugly rumour today.
Commander Vincent has allegedly been ordering the factory workers to carry out cruel acts against the young people who are brought here every day from all over the world. To begin with, nobody has ever told me why those young people were brought to this city in the first place, but it doesn’t sound like anything pleasant…
Well, as long as none of it comes back to bite me, I suppose it’s not my problem…
October 10
Apparently, something major happened up above last night. I don’t know the details, but people are saying Commander Vincent pulled off another one of his brutal stunts.
November 9
Today, Commander Vincent finally came down here for an inspection. We only exchanged some casual small talk, but he looked every bit as ruthless as the rumours suggested. As a joke, I snapped a photograph of him—something like, “Let’s take one for the memories.”
He got absolutely furious. Just like the rumours said, he was an unpleasant piece of work.
PRISON WARDEN’S DIARY
October 20
Today I received a response from Umbrella Headquarters regarding the report I submitted about the recent mass suicide incident involving twenty units of raw material. Apparently Headquarters has no suspicions whatsoever about the incident. Their reply stated that they would promptly arrange for a new shipment of raw material from various locations around the world.
Even now, I regret having followed Commander Vincent’s orders and falsely reported that mass prison break as a mass suicide. But as long as I remain in this city, making an enemy of Commander Vincent would be the same as signing my own death warrant.
I can never forget the cruel smile on Commander Vincent’s face that night as he gunned down every one of the young people who attempted the mass escape, as casually as if he were exterminating insects.
The rumours were true.
Commander Vincent was a merciless man without a trace of compassion.
He is a murderer.
Ordinarily, it is my duty to report the truth to Headquarters.
But I am afraid.
Afraid of Commander Vincent.
What am I supposed to do…?
PRISONER’S DIARY
September 5
Today marks sixteen days since I was kidnapped off a street corner in the Congo by those men dressed in black and brought to this city. When I first arrived, I had no idea what was going on. But little by little, I’ve begun to understand how this place works. It seems that we’re being imprisoned here as guinea pigs for human experimentation by a pharmaceutical company called Umbrella. Everyone in this city is an Umbrella employee, and the women and children are all members of their families.
The test subjects seem to have been gathered from all over the world. The guy in the room next to mine is from China, the one across the hall is from Brazil. There are others from Russia, Japan… It’s like some kind of world exposition. But there’s something strange about it: everyone here is around my age. The youngest are sixteen, and the oldest are nineteen or twenty.
The Umbrella people occasionally take us, under guard, to the city’s arcade or nightclub in an attempt to “relieve our stress.” They think they’re clever. I’m not fooled. I’m going to escape from this city. For now, I need to gather allies.
September 10
Lately, something has been wrong with the others. I think they’re putting drugs in the food. Sometimes I lose consciousness myself. I have to be careful.
September 21
Help me!
Today another one of my friends was taken away. Chen, the guy in the room next door, was taken to the factory up on the mountain. I doubt he’ll ever come back. He’ll probably meet the same fate as Anna and Jacob, who disappeared last week.
I know what happens to our friends when they’re taken to that factory. By order of the city’s commander, a man named Vincent, the workers there cut open our brains and extract some kind of chemical from them.
Yesterday, when I was taken to the nightclub, I overheard some of the factory workers talking. They didn’t realize any of us were nearby.
Vincent is a devil.
No—not just Vincent.
Even the women and children in this city don’t see us as human beings. To them, we’re nothing but laboratory animals. Everyone in this city is a devil. If I stay here, they’ll kill me for sure. We have to put our escape plan into action before it’s too late!
October 9
Our chance has finally come.
For the past week, the Umbrella people in this city have been nervous and distracted. According to rumours, some major accident occurred at an Umbrella research facility somewhere in America. The guards have been so busy gathering information that surveillance on us has become much weaker.
The members of the mass escape have already been chosen.
- Stoikovich and Enrique will steal the keys from the guards.
- Sankon and I will serve as the diversion team.
- Yoshikawa and Felipe are responsible for obtaining weapons.
October 10
The escape route has been finalized. The operation begins tonight at 11:00 PM. Our group of twenty will split into Team A and Team B.
- Team A will escape through the ventilation shaft of the underground detention area and enter the sewer system.
- Team B will descend from the watchtower into the city streets using ropes.
The ropes binding us will be enough for the job.
If we fail, Vincent will undoubtedly kill us. But if we stay here, sooner or later Vincent will order our skulls cut open anyway. If we’re going to die either way, then we must act.
VINCENT’S DIARY
October 11
Last night, the raw materials being held in the prison staged a mass escape, seized firearms, and started a riot. I personally shot every one of those foolish guinea pigs involved in the incident. However, it would be extremely problematic if Umbrella Headquarters learned the truth about what happened. My plan to return to Headquarters with the accomplishments I’ve achieved in this city would be ruined.
For now, I’ve ordered the prison warden to report the incident as a mass suicide, but I’ll have to make sure everyone else keeps their mouths shut as well…
November 8
The people in this city who have always opposed my methods have secretly begun gathering evidence to file a complaint against me with Umbrella’s upper management.
Yesterday, that little fellow Lott informed me that a spy has infiltrated the city. The spy may be connected to those people. I’ll let him run free for a while and investigate his motives and accomplices before disposing of him. Still, it’s rather depressing that the only person in this city I can truly trust is little Lott.
November 19
It seems the people of this city are preparing to hand over a formal accusation against me to the representatives from Headquarters who will arrive next week with a new shipment of raw materials. I’ve heard they’ve even secured evidence.
I will never allow that to happen. And I cannot simply forgive the people of this city for what they’ve done. They need to learn what happens when they defy me…
November 22
I’ve taught them exactly what happens when they make me angry. I released the T-Virus throughout the city. Of course, I’ve disguised it as an accident.
By now the city is probably in a state of total collapse. With this, I can finally return to Umbrella Headquarters proudly, bringing the results of my factory’s research as proof of my achievements. There is no one left who would dare oppose me…
No, there is still one. That rat. I still have to deal with the spy who infiltrated this city.
WIRETAPPING RECORD OF VINCENT
We can no longer remain silent about Commander Vincent’s abuses of power. If we are to bring him down, the only option is to obtain decisive evidence and report it directly to Umbrella Headquarters’ upper management. However, he has proven remarkably careful and has given us no opportunity to catch him in the act. Therefore, although it was somewhat dangerous, we decided to tap and record his telephone conversations.
At last, we have obtained enough evidence to ensure his downfall.
This wiretap record contains proof that, during last month’s mass escape incident, he personally had all of the young prisoners shot to death and subsequently covered up the crime. Furthermore, it also contains evidence that, before being assigned to this city, he murdered a colleague in order to advance his own career. If we can deliver these recordings to the representatives from Headquarters who are scheduled to arrive in the city next week, Vincent’s removal will be inevitable.
At long last, peaceful days may finally return to this city.
LOTT’S DIARY
September 10
Today I saw some of the people being held in the prison when they were brought to the arcade. They all had vacant eyes, and one of the girls was even drooling. On the other hand, some of them glared at us with defiant looks. Their clothes were all tattered, and they smelled rotten.
Just like Dad and Commander Vincent always say, I could tell they were an inferior kind of people, different from us Umbrella citizens. Dad and the others always told me that those people were brought to the island so they could be operated on and cured, so they could become proper human beings.
I think they’re right. They should hurry up and help them get better.
October 15
I heard Commander Vincent killed the people who tried to escape together. How did something like this happen? It’s true that those people were supposed to be inferior to us, but they shouldn’t have been killed.
Why? What was it that I believed in?
Weren’t Umbrella and Dad supposed to be helping those unfortunate people by operating on them and making them better?
Why did they kill them?
November 23
The whole city is in a panic! Monsters are appearing everywhere and attacking people! The Umbrella men who were always kind to me until yesterday tried to attack me.
Somebody, please help me!
November 24
Mom and Dad have turned into monsters.
One of the survivors told me that Commander Vincent is the one who transformed the people of this city into monsters. There aren’t any adults left that I can rely on anymore… If that’s the case, then even if I’m the only one left, I have to survive.
No matter what happens, I have to save my little sister Lily. The two of us are going to escape from this city together!!
FACTORY WORKER’S DIARY
August 5, 1998
I’ve had enough. Day after day, all we do is strap innocent young people onto operating tables, split open their skulls without anaesthesia, and remove portions of their brains. Even after I crawl into bed at night, their cries, screams, and dying shrieks still echo in my ears. They never go away.
Commander Vincent is always telling us:
“Don’t think of them as human beings. They are nothing more than raw materials for creating Tyrants.”
But we’re the ones actually putting scalpels into their skulls. No matter how hard we try, we can’t see them that way. They are unquestionably human beings, just like us. I’ve begged Commander Vincent over and over again to at least allow us to use anaesthesia during the operations. But every request has been denied. He says that doing so would prevent the extraction of high-purity Beta Hetero Non-Serotonin.
No matter what the company orders us to do, what we’re doing cannot possibly be justified ethically. Without a doubt, when we die, we’re going to hell.
Or maybe…
Maybe this reality itself is already hell.
ON THE EXTRACTION METHOD OF RAW MATERIAL: BETA HETERO NON-SEROTONIN
In order to establish a mass-production system for Tyrants, it is essential that large quantities of highly purified Beta Hetero Non-Serotonin be injected during the genetic cultivation process. Research has determined that this substance is a component of the human brain and is secreted in the greatest quantities by the pituitary glands of healthy adolescents in the later stages of puberty (ages 16 to 19).
Furthermore, medical data has revealed that this substance reacts to excessive secretion of noradrenaline, which is produced in the locus coeruleus of the brainstem. Noradrenaline is a chemical released when a human being is subjected to extreme tension, stress, or fear.
Because Beta Hetero Non-Serotonin exists only within activated cells, it cannot be extracted from a brain-dead body. Therefore, the most effective extraction method is as follows:
The adolescent subjects designated as raw materials should have their skulls opened while still alive and without anaesthesia. By inducing extreme fear of death and unbearable pain, excessive secretion of noradrenaline can be stimulated. Once this state has been achieved, the pituitary gland should be surgically removed.
This method provides the highest-quality extraction results.
