Jane

Now settled, Jane would grow up in Raccoon City, attending all levels of education. By 17 years old she would develop a close relationship with Jim, a fellow student. The two would become a couple.

Following the Mansion Incident, Jane took great interest in the stories the S.T.A.R.S Officers would relay. Zombies, Monsters, Umbrella Corporation. It all stoked her interest in what was happening, especially as her father, Nick was now employed by Umbrella – along with so many in Raccoon City.

On 17 August 1998 Jane and her mother, Anita were out hiking in the Arklay Mountains taking in the scenic views of the forest. Their hunt was for green herbs – but were caught when then weather suddenly turned on them and a thunderstorm rolled in. They attempted to run back to their car, but had become disorientated and ended up in the ruins of the Spencer Mansion. 

Jane was instantly enthralled by the surroundings and recounted the stories to her mother, who was less than impressed. As the storm passed the pair decide to leave but as they do are attacked by a pack of Cerberus. They flee and attempt to make it back to the car. Anita however falls and is attacked by the hounds. Jane however is successful and makes it back, but faces the reality of losing her mother.

One month later on 17 September 1998, Jane meets with Jim who reflects on her mother’s passing and how her body was never recovered. That evening when coming home, Jane sees her neighbour Norman who tells her that his dog, Samson has been acting strangely recently and that his grandpa’s chickens have been eaten in the night.

The next day at school Jane and Jim reflect on the recent developments and wonder if zombies were to blame, remembering that the Cerberus did not look like normal dogs. They decide to head back to the ruins of the Spencer Mansion to explore. In the darkness, Jim discovers the underground basement and fires a gun. Jane is scared, but it is just a hoax – nothing was there!

The pair decide to call it after not discovering anything significant but as they head back, they both hear the dragging of feet in the forest. More concerned now, they run back to the car, but it won’t start! As Jim attempts to get it going again, the creature emerges – a Zombie! He continues to lumber towards the car. Taking no risks, Jim gets out his gun and shoots the Zombie, but it has little effect as more undead emerge from the forest. Eventually the car does start and they head back to the city.

Arriving back at home as the beginning of 19 September 1998 commences, Jane and Jim try to tell a passed out Nick about what they saw. Nick is having none of it and commands Jim to go home.

Later in the afternoon Jane, Jim and Nick venture over to Norman’s house to find that Samson has been decapitated and Norman is missing. The three enter Norman’s home. Jane stays on the ground floor whilst Jim and Nick explore upstairs. Shots are fired upstairs but Jane is horrified to find a Giant Spider crawling outside the window. She screams and Nick and Jim run from upstairs having encountered another spider. The three evacuate and call the police.

Half an hour later the RPD attend the scene and Nick attempts to explain what he has seen. The officers dismiss his claims and that Norman has been spotted near the sawmill. Nick then leaves the scene to investigate leaving Jane at home.

The next morning Nick returns and tells Jane his adventure the previous night regarding a now zombified Norman. Just then they hear a gnawing upstairs. They investigate the bathroom where a swarm of rats emerge. Jane flees the scene with her Dad just as Jim arrives in his car. Jim is feeling unwell and explains that he was on his way to meet his father who has not returned his calls. Jim falls out of the car so Jane and Nick help him to their sofa to rest. Jane decides to nurse Jim with medicine and then ointment when Jim complains of itchy skin. Nick meanwhile decides to leave and find Jim’s father, Mark at his work – the Arklay Dam.

Jim’s condition continues to worsen, complaining of having a fever and becoming delusional as well. Just then Nick returns and tells Jane to help him move Jim to the basement – Jim is infected and will turn into a Zombie. Jane is horrified by this news but helps her father and they lock Jim in the basement. Nick then leaves Jane once again telling her not to drink the water as heads downtown to tell his friends the same.

Some time later, Nick returns to a worried Jane for good reason. At least 10 Zombies are now in their suburb and headed towards their home. In the early hours of the 25 September 1998 the siege begins. Jane and Nick barricade their front door, but the undead are relentless, breaking windows. The hear a knock in the basement and Jane rushes downstairs. She unlocks the door, but Nick slams it shut. Jim, still alive is worried and demands that Nick kills him as a human. Instead, Nick slides Jim a revolver and Jim ends his life. Jane is traumatised by this but the panic does not end their. The two rush upstairs and then upstairs again into a bedroom. Jane begins to search for furniture to assist in the new barricade as Nick takes guard.

During this time a zombified Anita approaches and takes a bite out of Nick. He pushes his dead wife away allowing Jane to slip into the room with a chair and prevent a full on assault. Nick however, is not in a good state and begins to feel the effects of the T-Virus almost straight away. He tells Jane that his time is at an end but wants to ensure Jane makes it. He tells Jane to burn the house down using gasoline and that he will go out in a blaze of glory giving enough time for Jane to make it out.

With the fire ablaze, Nick knocks down the door and begins firing his shotgun, the commotion leaves enough time for Jane to make it to the staircase as the fire quickly takes a hold. However, through her father’s heroic actions, Jane is able to escape the home before it collapses. She flees outside where onlookers are watching aghast as they wait for the RFD to arrive.

As the fire takes hold, Jane looks back and hear her father scream “ANITA”. Jane wants to go back in but is held back as her home is destroyed by the flames.

It is unknown as to the fate of Jane thereafter although her doctor, Linda Pearl was of the view that she had died in the blaze as well.
