Makoba Village

Makoba Village was a small settlement nestled in the Arklay Mountains, approximately 40km away from Raccoon City. It is close to a main highway but access is extremely limited with only one stone bridge accessible by foot.

The village was founded in the early 1900’s by a satanic cult that worshipped St. Havohej – i.e the devil. It was picked as being extremely isolated from civilisation and allowed the cult to worship their idol away from prying eyes. The Festival of St. Havohej would take place every 4 years thereafter with the first confirmed festival occurring in 1922.

2 years later, a Professor Simmons of Raccoon City learnt of Makoba and began to investigate. He sends in a team to infiltrate the cult who by August 1924 confirm to the Professor their existence and their worshipping practices.

Following this infiltration, it can be assumed that the residents and elders became more sceptical of any outsider, although in 1993 they welcomed a descendant of Professor Simmons, the Rev. Harvey Simmons and his wife, Sarah. They settled in the Village, taking residence close to the church, where he led their sermons.

Over time, local services did arise including a hairdressers whilst the church remained the focal point of the village. Underneath the church there was a hidden crypyt that Simmons would use as his office. Additionally, there was a secret tunnel leading to a hidden dock on the river.

In 1998, Rev. Simmons led a group of residents to kick off the Festival. However, in doing so it brought to Makoba a mutated strain of the T-Virus. This slowly spread around the residents starting with the hair barbers and then other local services.

By mid-July 1998 most of Makoba was now infected with the T-Virus, most of its residents becoming Zombies. At the same time, S.T.A.R.S Member, Jill Valentine entered the village and ended up helping 2 young children escape the horrors and the growing madness of Simmons specifically.

Jill would report the outbreak to the authorities and Makoba was blockaded by the military. It can be speculated that the village was raised to eradicate the virus.
