Thomas Kasai

Thomas Kasai is the Director of the Umbrella Pharmaceutical Research Center situated in Raccoon City. He, working along side Noto-San led the operations within this center that publicly at least, researched medicines and viruses from around the world.

Kasai was likely to have been appointed to the role after the Research Center’s grand opening on 21 September 1993 – although this cannot be confirmed. He would serve with Umbrella until his death exactly 5 years later.

Kasai was first and foremost a researcher but in his role needed to adapt and also be a public face. This is despite the fact that whilst a lot of the operations at his center were legitimate, many were not. The center undertook rudimentary viral work with the T-Virus, creating Zombies in the process. It was used to house a T-103 Tyrant and a cloned version of the T-002 Tyrant also.

Kasai therefore was distracted a lot, and under his leadership, supervision was lax leading to a waste disposal issue.

On 21 September 1998, he and Noto-san decided that to celebrate the center’s 5th anniversary, it would be open to the public on a selective guided tour. Later that day citizens attended and Kasai would give a speech. During this time, he was targeted by a vigilante group that had infiltrated the center. Kasai was hit with a T-Virus sample and promptly died. 60 minutes later, the entire building would blow up due to its self-destruct system.
