Umbrella Research Facility

Constructed in 1983, the Research Facility was a front facing Umbrella laboratory in the heart of Raccoon City. It is at this location that some of Umbrella’s more commercial products were made. It is possible that Aquacure or Safsprin were developed in this lab.

It is uncertain, but it is likely to be connected to the main Commercial Headquarters of Umbrella which too was a very public and prominent building within the city. At some point during the Raccoon City Incident, Fabron was given full stewardship over the facility which he utilised as a staging ground for Phase of the Human Experiment 1242-B program. After Fabron had captured a number of Raccoon City citizens – Becca Woolett, Martin Sandwich, Valerie Harmon, January Van Sant, Samule Jordan and Tyrone Henry he infected all six before releasing them into the facility. Their task was to escape.

Despite being a public facility centre, the Research Facility was also used for nefarious purposes with dedicated areas for ongoing B.O.W research. The lab features many smaller expriement areas as well as waste and dta storage centres. On 27th September 1998 the 6 survivors were able to work together and escape the horrors that Fabron had set up for them. This includes locating key items, deactiviting security devices and then destroying bio -cores scattered about the lab. They were also able to override the emergnecy exit power functionality, allowing the lab to be unlocked.

In addition to the three areas the test subjects all visted, the lab extended further. One such development at this facility focused on vaccine development with another role being that of a Tyrant storage location. Indeed, at some point post the Mansion Incident, a cloned T-002 model was housed here. Additionally, a number of T-103 Tyrants were also stored which Daniel Fabron was able to utilise during his Phase 8 experiment. . After the failure of this testing ground, the Research Facility was left to fend for itself with many B.O.Ws simply roaming free. At least 1 T-103 escaped but it can be assumed, based on the number of storage tubes, that many more also fled the facility. There was also a hidden train platform that connected the facility to Raccoon’s train network.

On 28th September 1998 another group of survivors, lead by a U.B.C.S Commander were able to enter the laboratory in their bid for freedom. The U.B.C.S had intel that a potential vaccine existed for the T-Virus at the lab. Thios group encounters the cloned T-002 Tyrant as well as a T-103 that was chained down to a table. It however, activates before pursuing the survivors. In a valiant effort, the U.B.C.S take out the Tyrant, but in doing so, it sheds its limiter coat, mutating into its Super Form. The U.B.C.S sacrifice themselves to allow the survivors to escape with the vaccine.

Later that day, working on the same intel another group of survivors curated by the U.B.C.S enter into the Research Facility. Their story is a little difference, as they were somewhat taking shelter as they had encountered the Nemesis T-Type in the downtown area of the city. Despite this, it really was out of the frying pan into the fire, as they were stalked by another T-103 that the group had encountered earlier on. Like before, the U.B.C.S defnd the group and once again, this triggers a Super Form mutation, however it is unclear whether any of these survivors made it out alive…

Later that day a third group of survivors, led by another U.B.C.S Commander enter into the facility via the Virus Storage Room. This is small, almost external outbuilding connected to the facility that looks unremarkable to the naked eye. This group of survivors led by the U.B.C.S are under different orders – to recover a sample of the T-Virus. To do this the Commander locates the hidden entrance with a secret code. After unlocking, the Commander is able to obtain the sample before hoardes of Zombies bursts into the room alongside yet another resident T-103 Tyrant. The Commander sacrifies himself in the carnage allowing the group to press on into the facility. However it is here they encounter the Nemesis. Using whatever weaponary they can, Nemesis is pegged back allowing the survivors to board the train. The commotion attracts all the remaining B.O.Ws in the Research Facility as the train departs. In one epic final fire fight, the group are able to fend off the onslaught and escape the city.
