Zeno
Zeno is a leading member of the organisation simply known as The Connections. His actual position is unknown at the present time, but was high enough to enable the direct funding of Victor Gideon’s investigations into the mutated T-Virus and ultimately, ELPIS.
Little is known about Zeno’s background or indeed his origins. He is described by Gideon as being an “imitation” and his resemblence to a certain Albert Wesker suggests that he is in fact a clone of this bioterrorist. Zeno not only looks like Wesker, he has the same voice and similar powers that Wesker displayed after his administration of the prototype T-Virus.
Interestingly, Zeno appears to be infected with Raccoon City Syndrome as indicated by the black tissue/skin markings on his face. RCS was a condition that would lay dormant in survivors of Raccoon City and later emerge. Known victims of this included Leon S Kennedy and Michael Warren. However, if the theory is to be correct that Zeno is a clone of Albert Wesker, it raises the possibility that Wesker himself was infected perhaps during the Mansion Incident although this was a different strain to the one released in Raccoon City.
Either way, Zeno was infected with RCS but it remains unclear if this was actually killing him as he was already infected with a variant of T owing to his powers.
In his position at The Connections, he had access to the ARK – a vast underground facility within Raccoon City that Spencer personally oversaw and worked at. After the Connections were able to “assist” with Raccoon City’s bombings, the organisation were able to take control of ARK and would use the lab for the following 30 years as a hub for ongoing bioweapon research and bioterrorism. ARK was used by various organisations to buy and sell products including Tricell and HCF.
At the heart of ARK was Spencer’s last virus – ELPIS, something the Connections and Zeno specifically greatly desired. Zeno believed it to be a virus of significant importance that would allow his organisation to dominate the bioterrorism market in full.
Zeno had learnt that ELPIS had been completed, but without the right password, he was unable to access it. He deduced that Grace Ashcroft was the key – Spencer’s adopted daughter. However, her whereabouts were proving to be elusive.
To this end, Zeno employed Victor Gideon, a former Umbrella researcher and fanatic of Spencer to accomplish two things. Firstly, to try and replicate Grace through the continuation of the horrific Children program and also attempt to locate Grace herself.
Eventually, Victor was successful and not only found Grace, but was able to confirm that her blood matched that of the infant Spencer had handed to Alyssa many years to go. Victor delivered Grace to Zeno at the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Centre and together they went to the ruins of Raccoon City to unlock ELPIS.
Zeno initially took Grace to the RPD where he revealed some of the truth about Grace to her and showcasing CCTV of the Children from the 1990’s attacking carers at the nearby orphanage. It also depicted clone Chloe’s attempted escape with Zeno believing that Grace was somehow the base clone.
At this point, DSO Agent, Leon S. Kennedy attempts to intervene, however Zeno deploys a Tyrant T-501 to hunt down and kills Leon whilst he took Grave to ARK.
After arriving at ARK, Grace was rescued from Zeno’s clutches by Leon, but after Grace learnt of her adoption from Spencer, she and Leon returned to the Pandora area of ARK where Zeno awaited. Grace, now of the view that she was not special, entered the password at the ELPIS terminal that released a number of ELPIS cannisters.
Zeno grabbed his moment and willingly injected ELPIS into him on the belief that it would grant him even further powers. It did not. It cured him. Not only was his RCS cured, but all his T-Virus related powers were wiped. Zeno, angered by what had happened, learnt the truth – ELPIS was not a super virus, but a super cure. Zeno took his anger out on Victor Gideon who was revelling in his master’s brilliance to control the narrative from beyond the grave.
Gideon, though, still saw potential with his own power and that of a super cure. He no longer needed Zeno or the Connections and labelled Zeno as an imitation. Using the Nemesis Gamma parasite from within him, Gideon beheaded Zeno in Pandora ending his life.
